In 2021, I was lucky enough to experience a Grand tour of Morocco. While there, I hoped to discover unique old world textiles that could be brought back to California and made into one of a kind garments.

That dream came true while in Marrakesh.

I was introduced to a small family of artisans that had been weaving fabrics on ancient wooden looms. I watched them space the thread through what’s called a “reed” made of iron nails and followed the bobbin being tossed effortlessly back and forth through the loom. This was a process thousands of years old. I was moved. From that moment on, I knew I wanted to share what I had seen and experienced with you.

Berba was born. 

I wanted to design comfortable clothing that reflected the influences I saw along the narrow streets of the medinas, with natural vibrant colors popping all around you. I also wanted to reflect the more subtle hues of the High Atlas Mountains that border the city of Marrakesh, where you will find Berber villages literally preserved in time. Morocco’s color, texture and architecture are the inspirations for Berba.

Our fabric is made from 100% natural cotton; a cotton so soft it feels like a blanket. Our garments are all pre-shrunk and color safe, making them easy to care for. Berba garments are made for those seeking individuality through something they can wear and feel proud of.

Each design is unique, and will not be re-produced. We weave our fabric in small runs allowing us to control the quality of each garment. This is a slow-fashion brand, and each garment is designed to be passed down.
